How to Import Teams From a Spreadsheet
Prepare, preview, validate, and commit a tenant-safe team spreadsheet import without creating duplicates or losing row-level errors.
The short answer
Use Data Import inside the correct league and season. Start from the supported template, keep one team per row, upload the CSV or spreadsheet, resolve every preview error, and only then commit. The preview is the safety step: importing should never be treated as a blind file upload.
Before you start
- Administrator access.
- The destination league and season already exist.
- A supported CSV/XLSX export with a header row.
- A backup copy of the source file.
Step-by-step instructions
Choose the destination first
Open Data Import from the correct organization, league, and season. Confirm the destination before choosing a file so rows cannot land in the wrong season.
Normalize the sheet
Keep one team per row and use the supported column names. Remove merged cells, formulas, decorative headings, and totals. Preserve the original export separately.
Upload for preview
Choose the team import type and upload the file. LeagueArc stages and validates the batch before records are committed.
Resolve row errors
Fix missing team names, invalid values, duplicate identifiers, or ambiguous mappings in the source file, then upload a fresh preview.
Review duplicate risk
Compare preview names with teams already in the destination season. Decide deliberately whether a row is new or should be excluded.
Commit and verify
Commit only after the preview counts and destination are correct. Open Teams afterward and spot-check names, divisions, contacts, and season assignment.
What success looks like
Common errors and fixes
The header is not recognized
Download the current template or rename columns to the supported contract; do not guess based on another platform's export.
Rows are rejected
Use the row-level message to correct required or malformed values, then preview the entire file again.
Duplicate teams appear likely
Stop before commit, compare against the destination Teams list, and remove or rename duplicate source rows.
