How to Create a League Season

Create a sports season with dates, rules, divisions, registration defaults, and public status before adding teams or schedules.

The short answer

Open Seasons from the intended league, start the season wizard, and set the name, dates, sport rules, registration defaults, divisions, and initial status. Save the season before adding teams, registrations, or games so every later record has a clear organization, league, and season destination.

Before you start

  • Organization owner or league administrator access.
  • An existing league in the current organization.
  • Confirmed season dates and format.
  • Decisions about divisions, registration, and public visibility.

Step-by-step instructions

Select the league

Open Leagues and enter the league that will own the season. Confirm its sport and organization before opening Seasons.

Start the season wizard

Choose Create Season and enter a clear name, start date, end date, and the available sport-specific configuration.

Define structure

Add conferences or divisions only when the competition needs them. Keep the first setup simple enough that teams can be assigned consistently.

Set registration defaults

Review registration type, dates, fee, capacity, waitlist, waivers, and payment options. These settings should match the public offer.

Choose status carefully

Keep the season private or draft while setup is incomplete. Public visibility is a separate launch decision, not a substitute for testing.

Save and verify

Save, then reopen the season from the league dashboard. Confirm its dates and structure before creating teams or running imports.

What success looks like

A season exists inside the selected organization and league, ready to receive teams, registrations, schedules, and standings configuration.

Common errors and fixes

The season is under the wrong league

Stop before adding child records and recreate or correct it through the supported league-scoped workflow.

The season is not public

Check its status and the public navigation after setup is complete; draft or archived seasons should not appear as active.

Dates reject later schedules

Correct the season window before generating games or opening time-limited registration.
