Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between single and double elimination brackets?

In single elimination, one loss eliminates a team from the tournament. In double elimination, a team must lose twice to be eliminated, once in the winners bracket and once in the losers bracket. Double elimination is fairer but requires roughly twice as many games.

How many games are in a single elimination bracket?

A single elimination bracket always has exactly one fewer game than the number of teams. An 8-team bracket has 7 games, a 16-team bracket has 15, and a 32-team bracket has 31. This makes it easy to estimate how long your tournament will take.

What happens if my team count is not a power of 2?

The bracket generator adds byes automatically. For example, a 12-team single elimination bracket gives the top 4 seeds a first-round bye, advancing them to the second round without playing. This rewards higher-seeded teams.

Can I edit the bracket after it has been generated?

Yes. You can re-seed teams, swap matchups, and correct scores at any point during the tournament. Changes propagate through the bracket automatically, and the public view updates in real time.

Is the bracket generator really free?

Yes. Creating and sharing tournament brackets with leaguearc is free. Paid plans unlock additional features like full league management, registration, and live scoring, but bracket creation has no cost or team limit.

How do I decide which bracket format to use?

Use single elimination when time is limited and you need a quick result. Use double elimination when fairness matters and you have time for more games. Use round robin when every team needs to play every other team, such as in pool play or regular season scheduling.
